community art night

what:

a weekly drop-in art class for adults of all skill levels. Classes are lead by a practicing professional artists and cover a variety of artistic mediums and techniques.

when:

every tuesday night from September to June, 6:30-8:30PM (excluding holidays). Please arrive on time.

who:

all adults in the community are welcome regardless of skill level or experience. No children please – check out Family Art Night on Thursday for a kid-friendly class.

where:

the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, 9225 118 Ave NW. Please enter through the side door along 93rd Street. The front door is locked for security.

Thanks to a generous donation from Macewan University, every class is free!

There is no need to register or buy supplies. Just show up at the start of class ready to make art.

fall, 2019 schedule

Oct 1: Time to get scratchy! Scratch art using different tools and clay board.

Oct 8: Foil work experiments. Taking a look at stained glass and re-creating the effect using different materials and your imagination!

Oct 15: Line, form and function. Learning how to create and optical illusion using only two-dimensional materials. Strong use of inks and colour to aide in the illusion as well.

Oct 22: Bookmaking – create a book out of paper and glue! Handmade papers will be used as well.

Oct 29: Fun with modelling clay! Techniques shown in this
medium that is fun and very versatile!

Nov 5: Colour pencil sketches. Use artist grade coloured pencil to create detailed and amazing works of art. Techniques and tools explored!

Nov 12: Experiment with vellum and inks. Using reference materials, making your own masterpiece!

Nov 19: Use of analogous colour with oil pastel and tempera paints. A composition is established and adorned with some techniques explored.

Nov 26: Newspaper as an art medium? Using white conte, chalk and oil pastel, adding depth and form over a blank surface of newspaper. Concentrating on contrasts and shadows. Adding texture using mediums.

Some projects may be completed using a step-by-step process, others will be more flexible and open ended. All will allow you to use your own individuality and creative expression in an open environment. Each person has an opportunity to create something personal and meaningful while also making new friends and building bonds within the Alberta Avenue community.
