community art night

what:

a weekly drop-in art class for adults of all skill levels. Classes are lead by a practicing professional artists and cover a variety of artistic mediums and techniques.

when:

every tuesday night from September to June, 6:30-8:30PM (excluding holidays). Please arrive on time.

who:

all adults in the community are welcome regardless of skill level or experience. No children please – check out Family Art Night on Thursday for a kid-friendly class.

where:

the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, 9225 118 Ave NW. Please enter through the side door along 93rd Street. The front door is locked for security.

Thanks to a generous donation from Macewan University, every class is free!

There is no need to register or buy supplies. Just show up at the start of class ready to make art.

winter/spring 2020 schedule

Feb. 04 Composition and form – learning from the masters, lets take a deeper look into the classics and re-create our own!

Feb. 11 Time to get scratchy! Scratch art using different tools and clay board followed by ink.

Feb. 18 Foil Work experiments. Creating a stained glass effect using these materials and your imagination!

Feb. 25 Line, form and function. Using only 2 dimensional materials, learning how to create an optical illusion using line, form, and colour.

March 03 Mixed media. We explore artists who
use mixed media in their work, then we make our own.

March 10 Bookmaking. Create a book out of paper and glue! Handmade papers will be used as well!

March 17 Colour pencil sketches. Use of artist grade coloured pencils to create very detailed and amazing works of art! Techniques and tools explored.

March 24 Experiment with vellum and inks. Using reference materials, making your own masterpiece!

March 31 Use of analogous colour with oil pastel and
tempra paints. A composition is established and
adorned with some techniques explored.

April 07 Gel medium fun. We are going to learn some gel transfer techniques and have fun creating a composition.

Some projects may be completed using a step-by-step process, others will be more flexible and open ended. All will allow you to use your own individuality and creative expression in an open environment. Each person has an opportunity to create something personal and meaningful while also making new friends and building bonds within the Alberta Avenue community.
